Without a shaft of feeble light
Lonely wails the imprisoned wind
Ever haunting the dismal night
My skull like the cavern is
Eyes, ears permit no glow
Thoughts are the whirling tortured wind

Winter lies across the land
A thousand snowflakes deep
A thick and powdery mantle
It keeps the earth asleep

On lemon tinted mornings
It crisps the air we all inhale
It frosts with hoar the branches
And crunches loudly on the tail.
