There was a spark in me to-day
I saw a job to do
Extra, not routine
I got right out
And did it
It’s done, finished
Took no time at all!
I took the saw
The clippers
And pruned that lilac tree
It was overgrown
With gnarled branches
Not producing blooms
It will flower next year
We are both better for that exercise
Lilac and me!
