Icy Walk

icywalk
It was frosty to-day
Fresh and clean
As I trudged my pathway
Grey ice on the sidewalk
Be careful I thought
Watch for that darn black ice ,too
It’s so hard to see
I crash the next moment
Feet flying
Hands flailing
I descend in a heap
Glasses and hat ascue
Did I break anything
Does everything move
Get up if you can
Embarrassed, clothes in disarray
I’M UP
Ouch, I’m bruised
But everything works
I’ll stop for a coffee
Then toddle off home
Try again to-morrow
It will work out the stiffness
Of that surprising big thump.

AN OLD WOMAN

Old Woman

There is an old woman
Who walks on our street
With umbrella in hand
And galoshes on feet

As she toddles along
Each person she meets
Gets a wide friendly smile
And good morning greet

I wonder where she goes
On her early morning beat
With flapping raincoat
And galoshes on feet
