  • Dry River Bed

    My rocky bed is empty
    With boulders parched and dry
    Lichen even cling to them
And grasses, in silt grow high
Not a drop of water glistens
No merry note upon the air
No cooling silver slides and crashes
    No gentle mist swirling there
    The timid birch are thirsty
The deer don’t pause to drink
Because man changed my water way
    To make a Hydro Dam,
    I think!

  • Prairie Girl

    Norway Mountain

    Where are you Prairie Girl
And what are you doing here
    Maiden of the flat land
    With hardly a risen knoll
What are you doing up here
    High on a mountain side
    In far away Norway
A land of steep mountain peaks
    True the view is magnificent
    But you are terrified
    Norway folk climb nimbly
With daring and naught a fear
But this is hardly the place
    For a timid Prairie Girl
    With timid Prairie feet
    Enjoy the view they say
The air is cool and crisp
    Admire the soaring crags
    Glory in the pristine glaciers
    And hear the tumbling waters
    Roar over the silver falls
    It’s beautiful, breathe taking
    Compared to your golden wheat
But this is hardly the place I’m sure
    For a timid Prairie Girl
    With timid Prairie Feet!
